Participatory paleogeology meditations with the walkers of FS4 contemplating 300 million year time spans to envision the fossilised forests hundreds of feet below Southern Illinois, formed when it was equatorial within the Laurentia landmass. The bulk of funding for geological science in the US flows from the Dept of Energy. A collective conversation followed over sandwiches in the carpark. Reflections build on the art shown within Confluence Ecologies exhibition at the Southern Illinois University Museum that highlights the entanglements between fossil fuels, fossil science and deep time epistemologies of the Anthropocene.
