Day 2 of Anthropocene Campus Venice began with a presentation on Virtual Reality and ended with a presentation on manufactured reality. The above image is from a presentation by Florinke Egmond. It illustrates an example water engineering in the Netherlands. Early 19th century narratives of water protective measures sought to control and dominate water in the form of levees, dykes, dams, and pumps. Similarly to New Orleans, these early attempts of resisting water have left our sinking cities to resemble empty bathtubs with water lapping at the edges.
